⚠️ Important: Types of Fireworks Events & Ticket Requirements
This article describes my experience at HANABI MAGIC and other fully ticketed fireworks events held at Lake Yamanaka.
In recent years, Yamanakako has hosted entertainment-style fireworks shows separate from the traditional Hokosai Festival. These events require tickets for all seats, and same-day ticket purchases are often difficult—advance preparation is essential.

How I Got There
I drove to Lake Yamanaka. Since it was peak tourist season, the roads near the venue were heavily congested. After finally parking and taking a breath, I realized something shocking.

For ticketed fireworks events, bringing your ticket is absolutely mandatory. If you forget it, you may not be allowed inside the venue—double-check before leaving home!
Forgetting the Ticket… and Finding a Hidden Gem by the Lakeshore
Despite having carefully purchased a ticket for the paid viewing area, I made a huge mistake—I forgot the ticket at home.
I was devastated. “If I can’t enter, do I have to go home…?”
But since I had already come all the way to Yamanakako, I decided to walk along the lakeshore anyway.
As I wandered in defeat, I discovered sandy beaches and open spots outside the fenced venue that still offered a clear view of the fireworks.
I spread out my leisure sheet and sat down, thinking, “Well, this will have to do.”
To my surprise, it turned out to be perfect.
Nothing blocked the view, and the fireworks reflected beautifully on the lake surface. The openness and scenery felt just as good—if not better—than the paid area.
What started as a disaster became a wonderfully relaxed experience. Now it’s a funny memory: “Maybe forgetting the ticket was a blessing in disguise.”
This Year’s (2026) Schedule
Yamanakako hosts multiple fireworks events. Here are the major ones:
- Hokosai (traditional festival): August 1, 2026 (Sat)
- HANABI MAGIC Fuji・Yamanakako 2026: Already held on May 30, 2026
For upcoming events, always check the official Yamanakako Tourism Association website to confirm whether the event is ticketed or free.
Notes for Visitors
- Getting Around: The lakeshore is wide, so expect long walking distances after getting off your car or bus. Wear comfortable shoes and bring a warm layer—it gets chilly at night.
- Best Part: The reflection of fireworks on the lake. The deep, resonant sound echoing through the mountains felt completely different from city fireworks.
- Good to Know:
- Always check whether you have your ticket!
- Parking lots become extremely congested after the event. It may be smarter to stroll around the food stalls and leave a bit later.
Summary
Although the night began with the shock of forgetting my ticket, watching the fireworks from the lakeshore turned into a wonderfully open and relaxing experience.
Paid seats are great, but at Yamanakako, even the time spent walking along the lakeside searching for a spot can be part of the charm.
With a little flexibility, you can create an unforgettable summer memory.
