All-Photonics Network (APN) is a technology that uses optical signals across all areas of communication networks, boasting performance far surpassing traditional communication technologies involving electrical signal conversion. The greatest features of APN are summarized in three points: ultra-large capacity transmission, low power consumption, and ultra-low latency. In fact, in 2024 verification by Chunghwa Telecom and NTT, they achieved a transmission speed of 100Gbps and an astonishing low latency of just 17 milliseconds over approximately 3,000 kilometers of international optical fiber connecting Taiwan and Japan. In this collaboration with Fujitsu, by integrating this APN technology into Taiwan’s core infrastructure, we will build a foundation that supports advanced AI processing and remote operation technologies that require real-time capabilities, while significantly reducing power consumption during communication. In particular, the approach of maximizing energy efficiency by minimizing conversion to electrical signals is also crucial for corporate ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) strategies. The three companies will jointly explore the possibility of applying quantum technology to network control of distributed data centers using APN. A distributed data center is a system that connects multiple sites with a high-speed optical network, rather than aggregating data into a single massive site, utilizing the entire system as a single massive computing resource. At this time, by protecting and controlling communication between sites with quantum technology, an infrastructure with extremely robust resistance to cyberattacks is built.
